A year in review

Image
Let me start by saying Happy New Year. Just like everyone else I take this time to look back on the year. At this time of the year it can be easy to get swallowed up with what you want to change, improve and well the dread of knowing that you have to go back to work but I want to reflect on the positives of the year. They say each year 2 big events in your life happen and that was the case for me, there are two things about the year I look back on with fondness and joy and they're experiences I won't ever forget (or at least I hope I don't) however there is a third thing as well that wasn't necessarily big or new or that exciting but might help with looking forward to the future. My first big event was something that for a while I wasn't sure would happen and that was graduating from University. I struggled at uni, I suffered from depression and I wanted to give up, it crushed me emotionally and mentally and if I could go back now to 18 year old me I'd tell h...

Reflection

Image
You know those days where your mind just wanders and you end up fantasising about your future or reflecting heavily on your past, well that happened to me today. I don't know if there was something added to my muffin or I'm suffering from minor exhaustion but my mind decided to take me back to my first year of high school. We're talking almost 9 years ago yet my mind remembers exactly how I felt as a small child walking the halls of high school surrounded by people I thought were adults, twice the size of me, scared and overwhelmed and now I've graduated from university. Now the reason I write this post is not to talk about how much I've grown since then but to help people who feel so stuck in the moment, like there is no future or no hope of getting past something because in high school, where I am now seemed so far away, it felt like I would be in high school for the rest of my life. I struggled with friendships, I had moments where I questioned if it was worth ...

A procrastinator's guide to school (Tip 1)

Think of this as being like Ned's declassified school survival guide (I realise that there are people who are younger than me that have no idea what this is but if you don't google it) but this is for procrastinators specifically it may or may not become a series of posts with the tricks I learnt from my 17+ years of education. I am someone with the inability to focus especially when I have assignments piling up resulting in a sudden desire to learn how ice cream is made by watching 2 hours of YouTube but I have a few tips to help you pull yourself together and get those assignments in on time to a somewhat high standard. So the big tip for this entry is to make use of the school library. I know your room is more comfortable and you can tell yourself all you want that you'll do the work at home, but you're more likely to focus in the library not just because it's quite and you're surrounded by material that can help. You see in the library lives a special bre...

Study Tips and Tricks

Study may be over for some of you because of holidays (whether that's the summer or semester break, depending on where you are in the world) or you've graduated, but for some of you the journey may only be beginning so it can't hurt to have some study tips that we've found useful over our university careers. Study is always daunting, especially when you're a procrastinator (as we both are), or you don't really have the motivation to do it and you're giving yourself the excuse that you have plenty of time to do whatever study or assessment you have. This has always been a problem us. So as procrastinators we have compiled a list of useful tips and tricks that help us get the work done. 1. Study in chunks- work for X amount of time, and then break for Y amount of time, then repeat. Last year we started to implement this strategy. The point to this strategy is to break up the time so you don't drain all your energy and it makes it more tolerable. There...
